my studies

My time studying on the Creative Arts Practice
course at Sheffield Hallam University appears to
have come full circle. I started out doing a
foundation year in Fine Art and Design Course then
migrated across to C.A.P. I remember this fondly as
we were crammed into the basement in the Harmer
building. A field trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park,
triggered many thoughts, with the influences of
artists seen and re-searched which in turn got my
inspiration and creativity racing into high gear.

My art consisted of mainly Drawings, along with ideas for future works, however
having seen sculptural works of Isamu Noguchi thus began a journey on the road of
admiring many other great sculptural artists such as, Barbara Hepworth, Henry
Moore, and Constantin Brancusi.

I travelled to Romania to see the stone work sculptures of Brancusi. After my initial
excitement and enthusiasm I eventually moved into painting using all forms of media
and experimenting with texture, surfaces media and medium. After several years I
tried my hand again at ink wash drawings. All these are prominent in my work. A few
years ago I went to London’s Trafalgar square to celebrate Canada day on the 1st
July, where I met and spoke with Canada’s northwest native artist Bruce Alfred
(http://www.brucealfred.com/). I have always had an interest and passion for native
art, with its Totem poles, motifs and folklore and animal caricature drawings. The
language and spirituality linked to this and all aspects of their way of life. This brings
myself up to date with my current work.
